OK. My main question is, how do I get my video off my video camera on to my computer? Do I have to put it on a DvD? Do I need to just plug it in? If so, how do I get it off the camera? All it does is let me tgo to a Windows Movie Maker style program and won't open the camera file on the open menu.

Commonly, Just connect the camcorder to the PC via FIREWIRE CABLE (even USB cable can be used if the camcorder is capable but usually usb is for still photos). Power on everything and open a capture/editing software like WMMaker or Pinnacle Studio. Then start capture. After it has been captured, you may want to put it in a dvd to watch on the dvd player or just watch it on the PC.
