Any suggestions--video cameras?

I got a video camera for Christmas. It was only about 60 dollars and I love it! I love editing and making movies. Does anyone know a good camcorder that would be decent in making movies(not a cheesy play with it, but a good camcorder) I don't want to pay a ton of moeny, but that's what eBay is for. It would also help if you told me a good editing system to go with it, but if not, its okay.

I just need a dependable, good brand named, video camera that would be more than the normal home videos type.

I use a Panasonic PV-GS83 its cheap and has all kinds of features. Its pretty cheap on ebay, and has very good video quality.

You did not provide a budget.

MiniDV (digital video) tape provides the best available video quality because DV does not compress the video as much as MPEG2 used by most internal hard drive and flash memory based camcorders. The worst camcorder video quality is captured by DVD based camcorders which burn to .VOB files.

If you get a miniDV tape based camcorder, your computer will need a Firewire 400 port, and a firewire cable that will connect the DV port of the camcorder to the firewire port of the computer. Firewire, IEEE1394 and i.Link are all the same thing.

Playing video slows down computer to a halt?

Ok, I asked this question before, but now it's gotten worse. It started when certain streaming video locked up my computer. It wasn't so bad, but now, ANY video that plays through WMP. I have gotten a solution that works: Turning off DirectDraw Acceleration in dxdiag on my computer, but this is very annoying. Does anyone know a better way to fix this? Or even better, I'd like to know why this happens.

I'm using Wmp 11 and have a G-force 6600 GT for a video card.

Please let me know if you need more information, thanks in advance for your help.

Have you updated your direct x to the latest version?
Sonds like you need a better set of codecs. I installed the latest k-lite codec pack the othere day and wasn;t too thrilled with it. Slowed me down a bit, but that may just be my system. Try it if you like, or Nimo's pack:

If you could afford it the Nvidia 7900GTX would be the best, but those are over $500 and huge to boot. I love my 7800GT. They are under $300 and only take up one slot, much more room if you want to go with SLI. Runs cool too, about 40-42C average even while playing games. I have HL2, FEAR, Far Cry, Quake4, all look awesome!

for a good graphics card get a geforce 6600

for a better grapics card get a geforce 7000

the higher the number the better the geforce card is. I find that geforce is better as I have had a radion fry on me before now.

Ok, I finally got videos to work on my damned iPod, and I put a few Family Guy Episodes on it in Winamp Media File format... I tested it out and it worked fine with both audio and video, but when I tried to put on a MOVIE in the same format, for some stupid reason it wouldn't play, or even add it to the video library! What do I do?????

I was using Ulead to edit my video project and it kept crashing over and over again, well I had about 4 videos in the library, and eventually on one of the crashes, It deleted one of my videos, I looked for it all over the compuer, and it's gone!!!! I don't know what to do, it was a very important video, and now its gone...or is it? Has this happened to anybody before, I tried a whole mess of file recovery programs and none of them found it. I'm a little unclear on the question, but hopefully the following will include the answer you are looking for.

Memory on video cards (in general) is used to hold a framebuffer, that is the image being drawn on the screen.

Modern video cards with 3D capability (compared to the older VGA cards) use the framebuffer for normal desktop work as well. But for 3D applications like WoW they use the video memory to hold texture bitmaps (like grass and stone), and geometry information (like the positions of the polygons which make up a building).

It is possible for both modes to be used together, like when one runs WoW in a window on the desktop. The DirectX driver decides what information needs to be placed in video memory, and swaps things in and out of the main system memory as they are needed.

There are some cards which share memory between the video processor and the main system. This is slower than a card which has all of its memory on-board, but is less expensive. A card like this might use 64M of real video memory and another 64M of system RAM. I would avoid these cards unless you have no choice.

In most media players, there will be an option (somewhere in the option menu, just search around for it) that will ask whether or not you want the window to be always on top. Check this to say yes, and it will always stay on top of your work!

Also, using a skin instead of the entire player reduces the amount of space the controls and such of the player take up, so it's mostly just the video taking up room.

there is no homebrew converter, the psp doesnt have enough memory to allow this, however, there is a homebrew program that can play avi, dvx, mpeg, wmv (and some others that arent really important to me, so i dont care).

Free video converter or alternative movie maker?

I need a free downloadable video converter. No strings attached. None of that 'can only convert between a few seconds to a few minutes' crap. I'm tired of getting my hopes up and having them explode.

SUPER is not working for me. Either that or I can't figure out the settings to change some VOB files to AVI. Or anything, for that matter. All I want is to get those videos into Windows Movie Maker.

Total Video converter trial ended way back. This isn't my computer so I shouldn't mess with anything such as the calendar.

Or, if you know of any free downloadable alternatives to Windows Move Maker that can read VOB files, that'd be greatly appreciated.

I had trouble with my hard drive recently and had to get a new one. I had someone install a new drive and also keep the old one. But the main drive is the newer drive.

And now I can't seem to play some of my games. I re-installed Diablo 2 and it ran the video test, but it comes up no video modes avalible.

I have the latest version DirectX and even updated all my video drivers and I still get the same message. Please help.

How to become a video game tester..for real!?

i want to learn how to become a video game tester.. I've searched online and all i can find are ridiculous sites that are just rip offs.. also can you go to school to be a video game tester?? i really need some information, this is something I've always wanted to do.. I wouldn't mind having a job like that now. Becoming a game tester requires that you have great communication skills. Your job will be testing for bugs in the game. Some testers will try to critique the quality of the game instead of finding the broken parts of it. It really depends who you work for I suppose.

Communication and good writing skills are good to have. When you find something that isn't working you need be able to tell the programmers everything about it. Where did you find it? How did you do it? Can you do it again? Also having a keen eye for subtle mistakes. Some bugs aren't as easy to find and may exist in places in the level where players do not frequently visit.

You're good to ignore those site that ask you to pay money to be a tester. It's just a scam. You shouldn't have to pay money for a job. A lot of game testing may be unpaid though while others will pay you for around $10/hr or more. I tested for the Everquest game on the PS2 and it was unpaid but it was fun to be part of a community helping find game bugs.

A lot of the big companies would like you to work in their facility. So you need to be living in the area they are located. Some of them allow you to test remotely but these usually do not pay. It would help to have some kind of degree. It sounds like you like game a lot since you are specifically wanting a job like this. You can join closed or open betas of games and become well known in the community. Write on the forums and create a presence so people will known you. There really isn't a college to teach you how to become a game tester. I told you the basic skills. It is basically communication and writing. I'm sure companies wouldn't mind if you had some knowledge in programming and video games. Sometimes you can work your way up from Game Tester to Game Designer but you have to be pretty good and be with them for some time.

The job sites won't list jobs like that so often. You would have to go directly to the company site. The bigger companies will already have a group of people so it might be harder getting to be a tester with them. I recommend you start small. Find a game in closed beta and join it. Do your best in assisting the developers with its bugs and be social with the rest of the community. You probably won't get paid but it is experience you will have for the next job you take. Work on your skills and work on getting experience.

Remember.. as a tester your job is to break a game and find its bugs. It is not to be the first one to complete it or have the highest score. No one would care because the game you test is usually only partially finished. You may be given direct orders to test certain aspects of a game and you may not always test games you like.

There was a commercial on tv advertising about how ITT Tech can train you to become one, and I'm pretty sure there must be a college where you live that has the degree. Your video "card" could be simply built-in to the motherboard (mobo). If you're getting into games and stuff that needs accelerated graphics, consider installing an aftermarket graphics card onto the mobo. I have a video on my computer that is about 300x300. I want to shrink it down to 180x96 so that it fits on my mp3 player. Is there any free programs to shrink its dimensions? The video converter my mp3 player came with increases the size of the video (400mb originally to 2.2GB after the conversion) but shrinks the dimensions to fit the screen of the mp3 player. when my baby was born my husbands parents were visiting me in the hospitol and the nurse was about to take my baby down for her first bath. since i had just had a C-section i could not go but the nurse asked if the grandparents if they wanted to go and watch so my husband his brother and parents all went down and they video taped the whole thing. during the video they say things like HAHAHA shes peeing and at one point the nurse says get a butt shot when she was on her knees and there was poop there. i feel it was a little too much for them to tape it. also the agle that they were at seemed to focus on her privates the whole time. so anyway they gave me a COPY of it and kept a copy for themselves. i know she is just a new born but just feel its a little MUCH for them to have a COPY. i made my husband go when they werent home and take the video. they arent bad people i just feel its inappropraite!!! what do u think?

I would probably feel the same way - I just had my daughter by C-section too this Jan - and missed out on her first bath also- If it were me I would have wanted her video of her first bath to be something precious -which is probably more the reason why you are upset -because they turned it into something comical and embarrasing- they stepped over the line with taping her butt and privates intentionally zooming in on them- its ok tape her bathing naked but just not in the manner which they did -they should not have focused in on her privates its best to have them blocked by her legs -in photos or on video - a cute butt shot is ok -just not at an offensive angle or especially when there is poop!!- i feel so bad for you- I would so be upset about that-Any way If I were you i would not distroy the tape because I would still want to salvage the good scenes (hopefully there were some) so I would take it to be edited and have the things you dont want on there taken out -after that -then you can give them their copy back - if they ask you why you edited it- you can tell them you did it for your daughter's dignity -when she gets older you didn't want her to see her first bath as something to be embarrased or ashamed of but as something precious as it should have been - be sure to let them know your not mad at them but at the nurses for encouraging the offensive content of the video which you feel was not in the best taste for your baby-

In most media players, there will be an option (somewhere in the option menu, just search around for it) that will ask whether or not you want the window to be always on top. Check this to say yes, and it will always stay on top of your work!

Also, using a skin instead of the entire player reduces the amount of space the controls and such of the player take up, so it's mostly just the video taking up room.

I use two Macs and two PC's on my wireless network. I can stream video via iTunes from Mac to Mac via iTunes sharing but when streaming Mac to PC I can only stream videos of small size (ie Video podcasts, music vids and Tv shows less than 25minutes duration). Someone help me out, a friend sent me a video they made to me thru email, and it was an attachment. Its an %26lt;B%26gt;.avi%26lt;/B%26gt; file and when I play it in windows media player, it only plays the audio. How do I get the video to show up?

I was told I need to download the 'video codec' from the windows media player website and I should have to install the DIVX or XVID codec to see if it will resolve my problem. Anyone have links to what I'm looking for or further explaination of what those kind of codec's do?

First off, it's really hard to answer your question with only the video as your option. Is screen size important to you? How about the size of the player itself? Meizu is quite sexy compared to the iPod video. How much capacity do you need? If you purely want a player for its video playback, then I suggest you buy a hard-disk based player (ipod vid) instead of a flash-based (m6) due to its capacity constraints. However, if you plan to use the player in the gym, you might as well buy a flash-based one since it can withstand all those jumping and running better than the fragile hard disk.

Are other features important to you: reading text files, having a fully-customizable EQ, playing flash-based games, music subscription like Rhapsody, Audible or audiobook support in general, bookmarking files for audiobooks, being able to resume playback of both videos and music after turning off the player, navigation features, rotating pictures, folder-based browsing or ID3 tag-based, etc etc?

Which LCD size are you comfortable with, especially when watching movies? And which of the players have the most video codec support, up to what fps and what resolution? Do you need to transcode video files in order to play it? Which LCD screen would give you the best color reproduction, at how many colors and what max resolution?

Which OS would you be using, MAC or Windows? Do you need plug-and-play support so you can use your player as an external USB drive?

I bet if you can answer all those questions, you'll easily end up with a player with great video playback capabilities...

And as for your main question on the battery life, the latest iPod Classic 80gb can withstand upto 5 hours of video torture and the iPod Video can only do a measly 2 hours, while the Meizu m6 can churn out 5 or 6 hours of video. (Battery tests as was researched and posted on the internet...)

And personally, I'd choose a Meizu over an iPod any day. The iPod is overhyped and overpriced. Plus, not a lot of people own a Meizu, so it's a nice piece to show off. And, OMG, it's got FM radio! You'll also get a lot of support from online forums, which can help you get a lot of games and themes for free. Basically, the iPod just sucks. Buy an iRiver Clix 2, Meizu M6 or a Cowon D2. But then again, I value features and size (I love them small) over trends.

According to a CNN FOIA request of 2002, a nearby hotel's video DID DID DID capture the impact.

The Doubletree and a Sheraton Hotel are the only hotels within view of the pentagon crash site. The FBI says no Sheraton video exists.

Ok, people, if you play video games, I could really use your help on a topic that i've been thinking a lot about lately. Is it just me or do video just unoriginal and sucky now. I think that they are just realistic because they are obligated to be, and sadly the game suffers many casualities. Fun is at the top of that [long] list.

I am 23 now so here me out people. I grew up durring an age where games like Castlevania, Mega Man, and Zelda were just surfacing. These games prove that they have staying power. I mean will we even know what these game are like 10-15 years or even remember them? The reason is that kids don't understand how we got to where we are now in terms of video gaming graphics. It's unfortunate that they missed the evoulution. Although, I missed the evolution of gaming in the 70's. Regaurdless, I wouldn't trade growing up in the late 80's for anything because we that these games had something about them...fun factor. Let me know what you think...

Video games were much better in the 80's through early 90's esp on the super nes and genesis, nes etc. There where more video game companies out and they put out a lot of new ideas and new game play ,sure some of the games sucked but a person could play games on either end of the spectrum. from kiddy games to then hard core like Robocop vs Terminator. Now most of those companies have been bought and the suits dint like risking new ideas they like the tried and true games hence Resident Evil 1-7 Final Fantasy 1-12 Metal Gear 1-4 etc. Not saying those games weren't good but because so much rides on them games like Beyond good and Evil,Ico , Shadow of the colossus falls under the radar and since they aren't big money makers new ideas like those don't see the light of day so easily now.Even in Japan where the games run wild they say original ideas are dying out. Most games are just clones of each other.It can be said that some are better than others , but most either ninja whose clan is killed solo soldier mad at world Prince so and so lost his memory must find bride who was kidnapped etc etc

So yes u did miss some innovative games of the day, like i said not all were gems but some had good story lines and quirky game play

i totally agree- the original nintendo rocked- those were real games- even adults could and would play and enjoy them- today's games are so complicated- i mean who wants to read and memorize a 20 page instruction manual just to learn to use the controller!! nintendo had only 2 buttons and they were simple side scrolling games with great passion! super Mario bros rocks!! I downloaded a wicked emulator and can play all of the old games on my PC- its great!

ok, want to uprade my parents tower. It is a Dell Dimensions 2400. It is usin interrated video cipset wit a blue output to te monitor. Monitor is CRT not LCD. And it as reular PCI buss cards. Must I disable internal video on te moterboard? In BIOS, its settins are onboard, and Auto. It is on auto, but no disable. So sould I disable windows drivers for onboard video? I put in a card and Dells screen went on, but windows log in went to internal not new card, so can I fix this? THX!

make sure you have seated the graphics card in the pci slot correctly and plug the cable from the monitor into the port that the new graphics card has. you shouldn't need to disable the integrated graphics but also check to see in BIOS that your pci slots are enabled

Flash Actionscript (How to build video thumbnail)?

Hi. I am trying to build a simple flash video with actionscript that plays external FLV files.

I have managed to build the actual player with controls so far.

What I need to do next is to build a thumbnail list of available videos below the player that users can click on to begin playing it.

My question is, how do I create a thumbnail that displays the first frame of the video it represents? Would I have to take a screenshot of the first frame of each video and save it as an image and import it into flash to make these thumbnails? Or is there a way to show only the first frame of the video without having to save them as images?

I think you should create thumbnails from those FLV and use them as button instead of loading the FLV and get the first frame from each to use.

Reasons:

1. you have more control on the size of the final swf

2. you have more choice on the frame of each FLV to use to attract audience

3. if swf is too big, it might mess up the loading of other components of the web page.

4. each FLV can be load to the main swf using loadmovie() command, if you load all FLV, audience might only interested in one, result in bad loading time, wastage in server time/bandwidth.

Elements is the baby brother of Premier Pro (and a lot cheaper), so they can both mix stills and video. But then most modern editors can that, so there's a lot of choice - Elements is good but I prefer Vegas Movie Studio - I find the UI easier.

It could be due to slow connection or high traffic.

Try watching it during off peak hours, the video will be smoother.

Or you could watch it offline... try using 'zillatube' .
